On the 6th of October, 22 girls from our school choir participated in a state level choir competition. The girls have been practising very hard for the past few weeks. The day started with the girls gathering at the Upper Hall in their
kain batik.
After a short time of warm ups, the girls left for Taman Budaya where the competition was held. They reached at about 8.45am. Breakfast was provided. After breakfast, they proceeded to the hall. Once there, a short briefing was given. Then, rehearsals for the competition started. The girls were tired after round two of rehearsals. Of course, there were times when they had to go out of the hall to brush up a few parts.
Lunch was served at around 1pm. The girls quickly ate and went back to the hall to get ready. It was a real sight to see 20 over girls rushing about putting on make up, getting their
selendang in place. Eventhough they were tired and worn out from the long day, they were nervous and excited about the actual performance, or rather, the competition.
The competition started with a speech.
Suara MGS was the name of our choir that day. Of course, there were other suggestions given by the choir girls, such as the Rocking Rebels, Crying Choir, Barbaric Babies, and other ridiculous names. However, Pn Ruslinda chose the best -
Suara MGS. Our choir was the second to perform. I know the girls felt that they could have done better as they performed better during the rehearsals. But then again, they were still good. Our choir performed two songs -
Lima Prinsip Rukun Negara and
Tanah Pusaka. After all the choirs had their turn to perform, they were all entertained by a group of kids aged 7-10. Then it was the moment of truth.
Suara MGS from SMK (P) Methodist Ipoh emerged the first runner-up!! Other than the certificates, they also won RM750.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE SCHOOL CHOIR! The entire competition ended at approximately 3.15pm. Tired and satisfied, the girls headed home. What a day it was!
